DFN Project SEARCH showcases Bibi’s story to celebrate National Inclusion Week
This week is National Inclusion Week and DFN Project SEARCH is encouraging employers to consider opening their doors to supported internships and create truly inclusive workplaces. As part of this week of action, we are thrilled to share a video made in collaboration with NHS England telling the story of one of our graduates, Bibi.
Bibi is 21 years old and works at Whipps Cross Hospital in Waltham Forrest in North East London, part of the St Barths NHS Trust.
She became the first DFN Project SEARCH graduate to secure a role in a hospital A&E department, working as a Healthcare Assistant Specialist. The video follows Bibi on her daily routine, highlighting the views of Bibi’s colleagues and the hospital leadership team on what it has been like to run a supported internship programme and work with Bibi and her peers.
Bibi said: “The department is always so busy and there is always so much to do, but I feel as though I am making a difference and helping the doctors and nurses who are working so hard. My supported internship and job coaches gave me the right skills and confidence to know I could do this role in such an important department. I wouldn’t be here without them. I know there are a lot of other people who feel the same and can strengthen any workforce if they are given the opportunity.”
